Project Overview
The objective of this project was to provide protective coating to the Main and Auxiliary Transformers at the TGU Power Plant, ensuring longevity by preventing further paint decay and corrosion. SMSCL was responsible for executing all phases of the project, from surface preparation to the final inspection and quality assurance, adhering to international coating standards.
How Did SMSCL Help?
Our certified team worked within a strict seven-day outage window to complete the re-coating of transformers, coordinating with TGU’s Job Supervisor for precise scheduling. The scope included painting all associated deluge and firewater piping while ensuring compliance with RAL color specifications—RAL 6021 (Pastel Green) for transformers and RAL 3000 (Flame Red) for firewater and deluge systems.
Surface preparation was conducted using specialized detergents to remove contaminants such as dust and grease. Large flat areas were painted using rollers, while fin sections were coated with compressed or airless sprayers. All paints were prepared according to manufacturer specifications, with wet and dry film thickness measured using calibrated gauges to ensure compliance with coating requirements.
Rigorous quality control was maintained throughout the project, with inspections conducted at each phase. A certified Painting Inspector performed on-site assessments, ensuring the coating met required standards. A detailed handover document, including inspection reports and recorded test data, was submitted one week post-completion.
Safety and Compliance
SMSCL adhered strictly to TGU’s safety regulations, equipping all workers with PPE, including ANSI-compliant safety helmets, glasses, shoes, and fire-retardant clothing. Full-body harnesses were mandatory for elevated work. Contractors were required to remain within designated work areas and comply with TGU’s Safe Work Permit and Job Safety Analysis protocols.
To maintain a safe and organized workspace, SMSCL ensured strict housekeeping measures, proper waste disposal, and immediate reporting of any spills or safety incidents to the TGU HSE Officer. All chemicals used were accompanied by MSDS documentation, and any heavy equipment used on-site met certification and insurance requirements.
At SMSCL, we uphold the highest standards in protective coatings, safety, and project execution.
From meticulous surface preparation and application techniques to stringent inspections and quality control, our approach ensures optimal asset protection and long-term performance.
