Project Overview
The objective of this project was to install a 20-inch diameter pipeline for Touchstone Exploration (Trinidad) Limited’s Cascadura Wellhead, connecting to a location further upstream NGC’s Ø762mm pipeline. SMSCL was responsible for comprehensive field survey work, right-of-way (ROW) clearing, pipeline installation, and all related construction activities to ensure successful project delivery.
How Did SMSCL Help?
Our team managed every aspect of the project from surveying and ROW clearing to pipeline installation and testing. This included:
- Field Survey Work:
- Performed all required field surveys to execute the project efficiently.
- Located and marked survey controls for precise pipeline alignment.
- Staked out the proposed pipeline centerline and identified key pipeline details, including thickness/grade changes and buoyancy control.
- Marked ROW boundaries, construction workspaces, and other project areas to guide construction activities.
- Identified and marked all underground and aboveground utilities, such as pipelines, telephone cables, and electrical wires.
- ROW Clearing & Grading:
- Cleared and graded 44,835 sq.m (1470m x 30.5m) of the pipeline corridor.
- Removed boulders, rocks, trees, shrubs, and other obstacles to create a clear path for construction vehicles and pipeline activities.
- Managed proper drainage by installing temporary structures at flowing streams and constructing temporary fills with conduits to maintain natural water flow.
- Pipeline Installation:
- Constructed a Ø508mm API 5L X65, PSL2, External & Internal FBE Coated, Sch 40 Pipeline connecting the Cascadura Wellhead to the NGC Ø762mm pipeline.
- Installed 30 Pipe Saks QF20 Geotextile six-compartment Pipeline Weights with sand ballast fill.
- Supplied and installed 132 concrete slabs (610mm wide x 1200mm long x 100mm thick) at river crossings.
- Supplied and installed 4 concrete slabs (1372mm wide x 5001mm long x 203mm thick) at road crossings.
- Fabrication & Welding:
- Obtained bend angles by cutting 60 Nos. 3D 45-degree elbows into segments with specific bend angles.
- Conducted fabric maintenance on newly fabricated pipeline sections.
- Cut and fabricated segmentable long radius 3D 45-degree elbows for angles under 45 degrees.
- Performed welding of joints as required to ensure secure pipeline connections.
- Testing & Finishing:
- Conducted thorough hydrotesting and dewatering to ensure the pipeline's structural integrity and compliance with industry standards.
- Finalized ROW restoration, site cleanup, and environmental protection measures as part of project completion.
SMSCL Project Scope:
- Comprehensive field survey work for ROW staking and pipeline alignment.
- ROW clearing, grading, and preparation across 44,835 sq.m.
- Installation of Ø508mm API 5L X65 PSL2 Pipeline with FBE coating.
- Supply and installation of Pipe Saks and concrete slabs for stream and road crossings.
- Fabrication and cutting of segmentable elbows with precise bend angles.
- Welding, hydrotesting, and dewatering to ensure structural integrity.
- Full site restoration and environmental cleanup post-installation.
At SMSCL, we are dedicated to executing infrastructure projects with precision, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, environmental protection, and successful project completion.
