Project Overview
The objective of this project was to execute the Flare Tip Retrofit Works at PPGPL’s Point Lisas plant during its 2023 Facility Turnaround (FTAR). SMSCL was responsible for providing mechanical services, including manpower, tools, and equipment, to ensure the successful completion of the project within the scheduled window of April 19 to 30.
How Did SMSCL Help?
Our certified team was engaged to provide the necessary mechanical support for the FTAR, working in 10 to 12-hour shifts to facilitate the planned shutdown. To accommodate dynamic shutdown activities, manpower allocations were adjusted based on daily progress.
SMSCL deployed a specialized team, including Supervisors, Fitters, Rigger/Fitters, Fabricators, and HSE personnel. Our crew provided the essential tools and equipment for safe and efficient execution, including spanners, certified slings, harnesses, angle grinders, pneumatic saws, bolt torquing kits, and scaffolding components. All tools were clearly tagged, cataloged, and verified upon site entry and exit to maintain strict inventory control.
To ensure seamless operations, we assigned a dedicated Supervisor for each shift, acting as the primary liaison with PPGPL Task Leads for work assignments and issue resolution. Our team worked in direct collaboration with PPGPL’s Engineering Project personnel, ensuring alignment with operational and safety protocols.
Throughout the project, SMSCL maintained the highest safety standards. All personnel were outfitted with PPE, including fire-resistant coveralls, steel-toe safety boots, safety glasses, and full-face respirators rated for ammonia and chlorine exposure. Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations and PPGPL’s Contractor Safety Handbook was strictly enforced. Workers were required to complete OGUK medicals and PLEA training, while all personnel underwent mandatory 7-point drug testing before mobilization.
At SMSCL, we are committed to executing industrial projects with precision, maintaining stringent safety protocols, and delivering high-quality results within demanding timelines.
