Project Overview
The objective of this project was to execute critical process piping repairs during the Gas Plant 3 Turnaround (TAR) at PPGPL. SMSCL was responsible for managing the entire process, ensuring the successful completion of material handling, fabrication, onsite repairs, and compliance with all safety and quality control standards within a strict five-day execution window.
How Did SMSCL Help?
Our team executed a well-coordinated plan to ensure the timely completion of piping repairs during the TAR. This involved collecting and transporting piping materials from PPGPL laydown, pre-fabricating spool sections in our workshop, and preparing them through surface treatment and coating before transport to the site.
Onsite, we conducted field installations, including erecting scaffolding, executing cold cutting using clam-shell equipment, installing isolation plugs for welding, and ensuring compliance with ASME B31.3 standards for dimensional checks, fabrication, and welding. We removed and reinstalled spool sections, repaired corroded piping sections, and replaced critical components such as studs, nuts, and gaskets at flanges.
As part of our quality assurance process, our team performed 100% visual and radiographic inspections on groove welds, alongside dye penetrant testing for all fillet welds. All pipe sections underwent rigorous surface preparation and coating application post-installation.
To ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, our team secured all work areas with proper screening, provided certified lifting equipment for safe removal and reinstallation of piping, and assigned a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to oversee QA/QC procedures. All necessary fire safety measures, gas detection systems, and PPE requirements were strictly enforced.
At SMSCL, we remain dedicated to delivering world-class industrial solutions, ensuring safe and efficient execution of every project.
